The Machines de l’île is a totally new artistic project. Born from the imagination of François Delarozière and Pierre Orefice, it is at the crossroads of the "invented worlds" of Jules Verne, the mechanical universe of Leonardo da Vinci and the industrial history of Nantes, on the exceptional site of the Shipyards.
Both designers also chose to show the completeness of the creation process, since François Delarozière's first drawings. The materials are raw and the mechanisms visible. The gestures of the builders are visible for all the sculptures, steel or wood. The vision of the workshop of the company The Machine in service completes this new visit-show in a playful and educational dimension.
After an opening in 2007 with the Gallery and the huge Elephant, the Carousel of Marine Worlds in 2012, in July 2016, Johanna Rolland, Mayor of Nantes and President of Nantes Métropole announced the launch of the Herons Tree project. Its realization will be done during 5 years, its opening to the public is scheduled for 2021.
The machines de l’île celebrate their 10th anniversary this year!
To welcome under the Naves, the Open Squash, is a real pleasure: an international competition, a singular staging for an exceptional show ... a moment of unforgettable sharing between culture and sport.
